śrutaṃ deva mayā sarvaṃ rudrayāmalasambhavam |
trikabhedam aśeṣeṇa sārāt sāravibhāgaśaḥ || 1 ||

adyāpi na nivṛtto me saṃśayaḥ parameśvara |
kiṃ rūpaṃ tattvato deva śabdarāśikalāmayam || 2 ||

kiṃ vā navātmabhedena bhairave bhairavākṛtau |
triśirobhedabhinnaṃ vā kiṃ vā śaktitrayātmakam || 3 ||

nādabindumayaṃ vāpi kiṃ candrārdhanirodhikāḥ |
cakrārūḍham anackaṃ vā kiṃ vā śaktisvarūpakam || 4 ||

parāparāyāḥ sakalam aparāyāś ca vā punaḥ |
parāyā yadi tadvat syāt paratvaṃ tad virudhyate || 5 ||

na hi varṇavibhedena dehabhedena vā bhavet |
paratvaṃ niṣkalatvena sakalatve na tad bhavet || 6 ||

prasādaṃ kuru me nātha niḥśeṣaṃ chinddhi saṃśayam |

sādhu sādhu tvayā pṛṣṭaṃ tantrasāram idam priye || 7 ||

gūhanīyatamam bhadre tathāpi kathayāmi te |
yatkiṃcit sakalaṃ rūpaṃ bhairavasya prakīrtitam || 8 ||

tad asāratayā devi vijñeyaṃ śakrajālavat |
māyāsvapnopamaṃ caiva gandharvanagarabhramam || 9 ||

dhyānārtham bhrāntabuddhīnāṃ kriyāḍambaravartinām |
kevalaṃ varṇitam puṃsāṃ vikalpanihatātmanām || 10 ||

tattvato na navātmāsau śabdarāśir na bhairavaḥ |
na cāsau triśirā devo na ca śaktitrayātmakaḥ || 11 ||

nādabindumayo vāpi na candrārdhanirodhikāḥ |
na cakrakramasambhinno na ca śaktisvarūpakaḥ || 12 ||

aprabuddhamatīnāṃ hi etā balavibhīṣikāḥ |
mātṛmodakavat sarvaṃ pravṛttyarthaṃ udāhṛtam || 13 ||

dikkālakalanonmuktā deśoddeśāviśeṣinī |
vyapadeṣṭum aśakyāsāv akathyā paramārthataḥ || 14 ||

antaḥsvānubhavānandā vikalponmuktagocarā |
yāvasthā bharitākārā bhairavī bhairavātmanaḥ || 15 ||

tad vapus tattvato jñeyaṃ vimalaṃ viśvapūraṇam |
evaṃvidhe pare tattve kaḥ pūjyaḥ kaś ca tṛpyati || 16 ||

evaṃvidhā bhairavasya yāvasthā parigīyate |
sā parā pararūpeṇa parā devī prakīrtitā || 17 ||

śaktiśaktimator yadvad abhedaḥ sarvadā sthitaḥ |
atas taddharmadharmitvāt parā śaktiḥ parātmanaḥ || 18 ||

na vahner dāhikā śaktir vyatiriktā vibhāvyate |
kevalaṃ jñānasattāyām prārambho 'yam praveśane || 19 ||

śaktyavasthāpraviṣṭasya nirvibhāgena bhāvanā |
tadāsau śivarūpī syāt śaivī mukham ihocyate || 20 ||

yathālokena dīpasya kiraṇair bhāskarasya ca |
jñāyate digvibhāgādi tadvac chaktyā śivaḥ priye || 21 ||

devadeva triśūlāṅka kapālakṛtabhūṣaṇa |
digdeśakālaśūnyā ca vyapadeśavivarjitā || 22 ||

yāvasthā bharitākārā bhairavasyopalabhyate |
kair upāyair mukhaṃ tasya parā devi katham bhavet |
yathā samyag ahaṃ vedmi tathā me brūhi bhairava || 23 ||

bhairava uvāca |

ūrdhve prāṇo hy adho jīvo visargātmā paroccaret |
utpattidvitayasthāne bharaṇād bharitā sthitiḥ || 24 ||

maruto 'ntar bahir vāpi viyadyugmānivartanāt |
bhairavyā bhairavasyettham bhairavi vyajyate vapuḥ || 25 ||

na vrajen na viśec chaktir marudrūpā vikāsite |
nirvikalpatayā madhye tayā bhairavarūpatā || 26 ||

kumbhitā recitā vāpi pūritā vā yadā bhavet |
tadante śāntanāmāsau śaktyā śāntaḥ prakāśate || 27 ||

āmūlāt kiraṇābhāsāṃ sūkṣmāt sūkṣmatarātmikam |
cintayet tāṃ dviṣaṭkānte śyāmyantīm bhairavodayaḥ || 28 ||

udgacchantīṃ taḍitrūpām praticakraṃ kramāt kramam |
ūrdhvaṃ muṣṭitrayaṃ yāvat tāvad ante mahodayaḥ || 29 ||

kramadvādaśakaṃ samyag dvādaśākṣarabheditam |
sthūlasūkṣmaparasthityā muktvā muktvāntataḥ śivaḥ || 30 ||

tayāpūryāśu mūrdhāntaṃ bhaṅktvā bhrūkṣepasetunā |
nirvikalpaṃ manaḥ kṛtvā sarvordhve sarvagodgamaḥ || 31 ||

śikhipakṣaiś citrarūpair ma.ṅdalaiḥ śūnyapañcakam |
dhyāyato 'nuttare śūnye praveśo hṛdaye bhavet || 32 ||

īdṛśena krameṇaiva yatra kutrāpi cintanā |
śūnye kuḍye pare pātre svayaṃ līnā varapradā || 33 ||

kapālāntar mano nyasya tiṣṭhan mīlitalocanaḥ |
krameṇa manaso dārḍhyāt lakṣayet laṣyam uttamam || 34 ||

madhyanāḍī madhyasaṃsthā bisasūtrābharūpayā |
dhyātāntarvyomayā devyā tayā devaḥ prakāśate || 35 ||

kararuddhadṛgastreṇa bhrūbhedād dvārarodhanāt |
dṛṣṭe bindau kramāl līne tanmadhye paramā sthitiḥ || 36 ||

dhāmāntaḥkṣobhasambhūtasūkṣmāgnitilakākṛtim |
binduṃ śikhānte hṛdaye layānte dhyāyato layaḥ || 37 ||

anāhate pātrakarṇe 'bhagnaśabde sariddrute |
śabdabrahmaṇi niṣṇātaḥ param brahmādhigacchati || 38 ||

praṇavādisamuccārāt plutānte śūnyabhāvānāt |
śūnyayā parayā śaktyā śūnyatām eti bhairavi || 39 ||

yasya kasyāpi varṇasya pūrvāntāv anubhāvayet |
śūnyayā śūnyabhūto 'sau śūnyākāraḥ pumān bhavet || 40 ||

tantryādivādyaśabdeṣu dīrgheṣu kramasaṃsthiteḥ |
ananyacetāḥ pratyante paravyomavapur bhavet || 41 ||

pi.ṅdamantrasya sarvasya sthūlavarṇakrameṇa tu |
ardhendubindunādāntaḥ śūnyoccārād bhavec chivaḥ || 42 ||

nijadehe sarvadikkaṃ yugapad bhāvayed viyat |
nirvikalpamanās tasya viyat sarvam pravartate || 43 ||

pṛṣṭaśūnyaṃ mūlaśūnyaṃ yugapad bhāvayec ca yaḥ |
śarīranirapekṣiṇyā śaktyā śūnyamanā bhavet || 44 ||

pṛṣṭaśūnyaṃ mūlaśūnyaṃ hṛcchūnyam bhāvayet sthiram |
yugapan nirvikalpatvān nirvikalpodayas tataḥ || 45 ||

tanūdeśe śūnyataiva kṣaṇamātraṃ vibhāvayet |
nirvikalpaṃ nirvikalpo nirvikalpasvarūpabhāk || 46 ||

sarvaṃ dehagataṃ dravyaṃ viyadvyāptaṃ mṛgekṣaṇe |
vibhāvayet tatas tasya bhāvanā sā sthirā bhavet || 47 ||

dehāntare tvagvibhāgam bhittibhūtaṃ vicintayet |
na kiṃcid antare tasya dhyāyann adhyeyabhāg bhavet || 48 ||

hṛdyākāśe nilīnākṣaḥ padmasampuṭamadhyagaḥ |
ananyacetāḥ subhage paraṃ saubhāgyam āpnuyāt || 49 ||

sarvataḥ svaśarīrasya dvādaśānte manolayāt |
dṛḍhabuddher dṛḍhībhūtaṃ tattvalakṣyam pravartate || 50 ||

yathā tathā yatra tatra dvādaśānte manaḥ kṣipet ||
pratikṣaṇaṃ kṣīṇavṛtter vailakṣaṇyaṃ dinair bhavet || 51 ||

kālāgninā kālapadād utthitena svakam puram |
pluṣṭam vicintayed ante śāntābhāsas tadā bhavet || 52 ||

evam eva jagat sarvaṃ dagdhaṃ dhyātvā vikalpataḥ |
ananyacetasaḥ puṃsaḥ pumbhāvaḥ paramo bhavet || 53 ||

svadehe jagato vāpi sūkṣmasūkṣmatarāṇi ca |
tattvāni yāni nilayaṃ dhyātvānte vyajyate parā || 54 ||

pināṃ ca durbalāṃ śaktiṃ dhyātvā dvādaśagocare |
praviśya hṛdaye dhyāyan muktaḥ svātantryam āpnuyāt || 55 ||

bhuvanādhvādirūpeṇa cintayet kramaśo 'khilam |
sthūlasūkṣmaparasthityā yāvad ante manolayaḥ || 56 ||

asya sarvasya viśvasya paryanteṣu samantataḥ |
adhvaprakriyayā tattvaṃ śaivaṃ dhyatvā mahodayaḥ || 57 ||

viśvam etan mahādevi śūnyabhūtaṃ vicintayet |
tatraiva ca mano līnaṃ tatas tallayabhājanam || 58 ||

ghatādibhājane dṛṣṭim bhittis tyaktvā vinikṣipet |
tallayaṃ tatkṣaṇād gatvā tallayāt tanmayo bhavet || 59 ||

nirvṛkṣagiribhittyādideśe dṛṣṭiṃ vinikṣipet |
vilīne mānase bhāve vṛttikṣiṇaḥ prajāyate || 60 ||

ubhayor bhāvayor jñāne dhyātvā madhyaṃ samāśrayet |
yugapac ca dvayaṃ tyaktvā madhye tattvam prakāśate || 61 ||

bhāve tyakte niruddhā cin naiva bhāvāntaraṃ vrajet |
tadā tanmadhyabhāvena vikasatyati bhāvanā || 62 ||

sarvaṃ dehaṃ cinmayaṃ hi jagad vā paribhāvayet |
yugapan nirvikalpena manasā paramodayaḥ || 63 ||

vāyudvayasya saṃghaṭṭād antar vā bahir antataḥ |
yogī samatvavijñānasamudgamanabhājanam || 64 ||

sarvaṃ jagat svadehaṃ vā svānandabharitaṃ smaret |
yugapat svāmṛtenaiva parānandamayo bhavet || 65 ||

kuhanena prayogeṇa sadya eva mṛgekṣaṇe |
samudeti mahānando yena tattvaṃ prakāśate || 66 ||

sarvasrotonibandhena prāṇaśaktyordhvayā śanaiḥ |
pipīlasparśavelāyām prathate paramaṃ sukham || 67 ||

vahner viṣasya madhye tu cittaṃ sukhamayaṃ kṣipet |
kevalaṃ vāyupūrṇaṃ vā smarānandena yujyate || 68 ||

śaktisaṃgamasaṃkṣubdhaśaktyāveśāvasānikam |
yat sukham brahmatattvasya tat sukhaṃ svākyam ucyate || 69 ||

lehanāmanthanākoṭaiḥ strīsukhasya bharāt smṛteḥ |
śaktyabhāve 'pi deveśi bhaved ānandasamplavaḥ || 70 ||

ānande mahati prāpte dṛṣṭe vā bāndhave cirāt |
ānandam udgataṃ dhyātvā tallayas tanmanā bhavet || 71 ||

jagdhipānakṛtollāsarasānandavijṛmbhaṇāt |
bhāvayed bharitāvasthāṃ mahānandas tato bhavet || 72 ||

gitādiviṣayāsvādāsamasaukhyaikatātmanaḥ |
yoginas tanmayatvena manorūḍhes tadātmatā || 73 ||

yatra yatra manas tuṣṭir manas tatraiva dhārayet |
tatra tatra parānandasvārūpaṃ sampravartate || 74 ||

anāgatāyāṃ nidrāyām praṇaṣṭe bāhyagocare |
sāvasthā manasā gamyā parā devī prakāśate || 75 ||

tejasā sūryadīpāder ākāśe śabalīkṛte |
dṛṣṭir niveśyā tatraiva svātmarūpam prakāśate || 76 ||

karaṅkiṇyā krodhanayā bhairavyā lelihānayā |
khecaryā dṛṣṭikāle ca parāvāptiḥ prakāśate || 77 ||

mṛdvāsane sphijaikena hastapādau nirāśrayam |
nidhāya tatprasaṅgena parā pūrṇā matir bhavet || 78 ||

upaviśyāsane samyag bāhū kṛtvārdhakuñcitau |
kakṣavyomni manaḥ kurvan śamam āyāti tallayāt || 79 ||

sthūlarūpasya bhāvasya stabdhāṃ dṛṣṭiṃ nipātya ca |
acireṇa nirādhāraṃ manaḥ kṛtvā śivaṃ vrajet || 80 ||

madhyajihve sphāritāsye madhye nikṣipya cetanām |
hoccāraṃ manasā kurvaṃs tataḥ śānte pralīyate || 81 ||

āsane śayane sthitvā nirādhāraṃ vibhāvayan |
svadehaṃ manasi kṣiṇe kṣaṇāt kṣīṇāśayo bhavet || 82 ||

calāsane sthitasyātha śanair vā dehacālanāt |
praśānte mānase bhāve devi divyaugham āpnuyāt || 83 ||

ākāśaṃ vimalam paśyan kṛtvā dṛṣṭiṃ nirantarām |
stabdhātmā tatkṣaṇād devi bhairavaṃ vapur āpnuyāt || 84 ||

līnaṃ mūrdhni viyat sarvam bhairavatvena bhāvayet |
tat sarvam bhairavākāratejastattvaṃ samāviśet || 85 ||

kiñcij jñātaṃ dvaitadāyi bāhyālokas tamaḥ punaḥ |
viśvādi bhairavaṃ rūpaṃ jñātvānantaprakāśabhṛt || 86 ||

evam eva durniśāyāṃ kṛṣṇapakṣāgame ciram |
taimiram bhāvayan rūpam bhairavaṃ rūpam eṣyati || 87 ||

evam eva nimīlyādau netre kṛṣṇābham agrataḥ |
prasārya bhairavaṃ rūpam bhāvayaṃs tanmayo bhavet || 88 ||

yasya kasyendriyasyāpi vyāghātāc ca nirodhataḥ |
praviṣṭasyādvaye śūnye tatraivātmā prakāśate || 89 ||

abindum avisargaṃ ca akāraṃ japato mahān |
udeti devi sahasā jñānaughaḥ parameśvaraḥ || 90 ||

varṇasya savisargasya visargāntaṃ citiṃ kuru |
nirādhāreṇa cittena spṛśed brahma sanātanam || 91 ||

vyomākāraṃ svam ātmānaṃ dhyāyed digbhir anāvṛtam |
nirāśrayā citiḥ śaktiḥ svarūpaṃ darśayet tadā || 92 ||

kiṃcid aṅgaṃ vibhidyādau tīkṣṇasūcyādinā tataḥ |
tatraiva cetanāṃ yuktvā bhairave nirmalā gatiḥ || 93 ||

cittādyantaḥkṛtir nāsti mamāntar bhāvayed iti |
vikalpānām abhāvena vikalpair ujjhito bhavet || 94 ||

māyā vimohinī nāma kalāyāḥ kalanaṃ sthitam |
ityādidharmaṃ tattvānāṃ kalayan na pṛthag bhavet || 95 ||

jhagitīcchāṃ samutpannām avalokya śamaṃ nayet |
yata eva samudbhūtā tatas tatraiva līyate || 96 ||

yadā mamecchā notpannā jñānaṃ vā kas tadāsmi vai |
tattvato =B9haṃ tathābhūtas tallīnas tanmanā bhavet || 97 ||

icchāyām athavā jñāne jāte cittaṃ niveśayet |
ātmabuddhyānanyacetās tatas tattvārthadarśanam || 98 ||

nirnimittam bhavej jñānaṃ nirādhāram bhramātmakam |
tattvataḥ kasyacin naitad evambhāvī śivaḥ priye || 99 ||

ciddharmā sarvadeheṣu viśeṣo nāsti kutracit |
ataś ca tanmayaṃ sarvam bhāvayan bhavajij janaḥ || 100 ||

kāmakrodhalobhamohamadamātsaryagocare |
buddhiṃ nistimitāṃ kṛtvā tat tattvam avaśiṣyate || 101 ||

indrajālamayaṃ viśvaṃ vyastaṃ vā citrakarmavat |
bhramad vā dhyāyataḥ sarvam paśyataś ca sukhodgamaḥ || 102 ||

na cittaṃ nikṣiped duḥkhe na sukhe vā parikṣipet |
bhairavi jñāyatāṃ madhye kiṃ tattvam avaśiṣyate || 103 ||

vihāya nijadehasthaṃ sarvatrāsmīti bhāvayan |
dṛḍhena manasā dṛṣṭyā nānyekṣiṇyā sukhī bhavet || 104 ||

ghaṭādau yac ca vijñānam icchādyaṃ vā mamāntare |
naiva sarvagataṃ jātam bhāvayan iti sarvagaḥ || 105 ||

grāhyagrāhakasaṃvittiḥ sāmānyā sarvadehinām |
yogināṃ tu viśeṣo =B9sti sambandhe sāvadhānatā || 106 ||

svavad anyaśarīre =B9pi saṃvittim anubhāvayet |
apekṣāṃ svaśarīrasya tyaktvā vyāpī dinair bhavet || 107 ||

nirādhāraṃ manaḥ kṛtvā vikalpān na vikalpayet |
tadātmaparamātmatve bhairavo mṛgalocane || 108 ||

sarvajñaḥ sarvakartā ca vyāpakaḥ parameśvaraḥ |
sa evāhaṃ śaivadharmā iti dārḍhyāc chivo bhavet || 109 ||

jalasyevormayo vahner jvālābhaṅgyaḥ prabhā raveḥ |
mamaiva bhairavasyaitā viśvabhaṅgyo vibheditāḥ || 110 ||

bhrāntvā bhrāntvā śarīreṇa tvaritam bhuvi pātanāt |
kṣobhaśaktivirāmeṇa parā saṃjāyate daśā || 111 ||

ādhāreṣv athavā 'śaktyā 'jñānāc cittalayena vā |
jātaśaktisamāveśakṣobhānte bhairavaṃ vapuḥ || 112 ||

sampradāyam imam devi śṛṇu samyag vadāmy aham |
kaivalyaṃ jāyate sadyo netrayoḥ stabdhamātrayoḥ || 113 ||

saṃkocaṃ karṇayoḥ kṛtvā hy adhodvāre tathaiva ca |
anackam ahalaṃ dhyāyan viśed brahma sanātanam || 114 ||

kūpādike mahāgarte sthitvopari nirīkṣaṇāt |
avikalpamateḥ samyak sadyas cittalayaḥ sphuṭam || 115 ||

yatra yatra mano yāti bāhye vābhyantare 'pi vā |
tatra tatra śivāvāsthā vyāpakatvāt kva yāsyati || 116 ||

yatra yatrākṣamārgeṇa caitanyaṃ vyajyate vibhoḥ |
tasya tanmātradharmitvāc cillayād bharitātmatā || 117 ||

kṣutādyante bhaye śoke gahvare vā raṇād drute |
kutūhalekṣudhādyante brahmasattāmayī daśā || 118 ||

vastuṣu smaryamāṇeṣu dṛṣṭe deśe manas tyajet |
svaśarīraṃ nirādhāraṃ kṛtvā prasarati prabhuḥ || 119 ||

kvacid vastuni vinyasya śanair dṛṣṭiṃ nivartayet |
taj jñānaṃ cittasahitaṃ devi śūnyālāyo bhavet ||120 ||

bhaktyudrekād viraktasya yādṛśī jāyate matiḥ |
sā śaktiḥ śāṅkarī nityam bhavayet tāṃ tataḥ śivaḥ || 121 ||

vastvantare vedyamāne sarvavastuṣu śūnyatā |
tām eva manasā dhyātvā vidito 'pi praśāmyati || 122 ||

kiṃcijjñair yā smṛtā śuddhiḥ sā śuddhiḥ śambhudarśane |
na śucir hy aśucis tasmān nirvikalpaḥ sukhī bhavet || 123 ||

sarvatra bhairavo bhāvaḥ sāmānyeṣv api gocaraḥ |
na ca tadvyatirekteṇa paro 'stīty advayā gatiḥ || 124 ||

samaḥ śatrau ca mitre ca samo mānāvamānayoḥ ||
brahmaṇaḥ paripūrṇatvāt iti jñātvā sukhī bhavet || 125 ||

na dveṣam bhāvayet kvāpi na rāgam bhāvayet kvacit |
rāgadveṣavinirmuktau madhye brahma prasarpati || 126 ||

yad avedyaṃ yad agrāhyaṃ yac chūnyaṃ yad abhāvagam |
tat sarvam bhairavam bhāvyaṃ tadante bodhasambhavaḥ || 127 ||

nitye nirāśraye śūnye vyāpake kalanojjhite |
bāhyākāśe manaḥ kṛtvā nirākāśaṃ samāviśet || 128 ||

yatra yatra mano yāti tat tat tenaiva tatkṣaṇam |
parityajyānavasthityā nistaraṅgas tato bhavet || 129 ||

bhayā sarvaṃ ravayati sarvado vyāpako 'khile |
iti bhairavaśabdasya santatoccāraṇāc chivaḥ || 130 ||

ahaṃ mamedam ityādi pratipattiprasaṅgataḥ |
nirādhāre mano yāti taddhyānapreraṇāc chamī || 131 ||

nityo vibhur nirādhāro vyāpakaś cākhilādhipaḥ |
śabdān pratikṣaṇaṃ dhyāyan kṛtārtho 'rthānurūpataḥ || 132 ||

atattvam indrajālābham idaṃ sarvam avasthitam |
kiṃ tattvam indrajālasya iti dārḍhyāc chamaṃ vrajet || 133 ||

ātmano nirvikārasya kva jñānaṃ kva ca vā kriyā |
jñānāyattā bahirbhāvā ataḥ śūnyam idaṃ jagat || 134 ||

na me bandho na mokṣo me bhītasyaitā vibhīṣikāḥ |
pratibimbam idam buddher jaleṣv iva vivasvataḥ || 135 ||

indriyadvārakaṃ sarvaṃ sukhaduḥkhādisaṃgamam |
itīndriyāṇi saṃtyajya svasthaḥ svātmani vartate || 136 ||

jñānaprakāśakaṃ sarvaṃ sarveṇātmā prakāśakaḥ |

mānasaṃ cetanā śaktir ātmā ceti catuṣṭayam |
yadā priye parikṣīṇaṃ tadā tad bhairavaṃ vapuḥ || 138 ||

nistaraṅgopadeśānāṃ śatam uktaṃ samāsataḥ |
dvādaśābhyadhikaṃ devi yaj jñātvā jñānavij janaḥ || 139 ||

atra caikatame yukto jāyate bhairavaḥ svayam |
vācā karoti karmāṇi śāpānugrahakārakaḥ || 140 ||

ajarāmaratām eti so 'ṇimādiguṇānvitaḥ |
yoginīnām priyo devi sarvamelāpakādhipaḥ || 141 ||

jīvann api vimukto 'sau kurvann api na lipyate |

idaṃ yadi vapur deva parāyāś ca maheśvara || 142 ||

evamuktavyavasthāyāṃ japyate ko japaś ca kaḥ |

mahāśūnyālaye vahnau bhūtākṣaviṣayādikam |

yāgo 'tra parameśāni tuṣṭir ānandalakṣaṇā |
kṣapaṇāt sarvapāpānāṃ trāṇāt sarvasya pārvati || 150 ||

rudraśaktisamāveśas tat kṣetram bhāvanā parā |
anyathā tasya tattvasya kā pūjā kāś ca tṛpyati || 151 ||

svatantrānandacinmātrasāraḥ svātmā hi sarvataḥ |
āveśanaṃ tatsvarūpe svātmanaḥ snānam īritam || 152 ||

yair eva pūjyate dravyais tarpyate vā parāparaḥ |
yaś caiva pūjakaḥ sarvaḥ sa evaikaḥ kva pūjanam || 153 ||

vrajet prāṇo viśej jīva icchayā kuṭilākṛtiḥ |
dīrghātmā sā mahādevī parakṣetram parāparā || 154 ||

asyām anucaran tiṣṭhan mahānandamaye 'dhvare |

Sanskrit is the classical language of Indian and the liturgical language of Hinduism,
Buddhism, and Jainism. It is also one of the 22 official languages of India. The name
Sanskrit means "refined", "consecrated" and "sanctified". It has always been regarded as
the 'high' language and used mainly for religious and scientific discourse.

Vedic Sanskrit, the pre-Classical form of the language and the liturgical langauge of the
Vedic religion, is one of the earliest attested members of the Indo-European language
family. The oldest known text in Sanskrit, the Rigveda, a collection of over a thousand
Hindu hymns, composed during the 2nd millenium BC.

Today Sanskrit is used mainly in Hindu religious rituals as a ceremonial language for
hymns and mantras. Efforts are also being made to revive Sanskrit as an everyday
spoken language in the village of Mattur near Shimoga in Karnataka. A modern form of
Sanskrit is one of the 17 official home languages in India.

Since the late 19th century, Sanskrit has been written mostly with the Devan
āgarī
alphabet. However it has also been written with a number of other alphabets, including
the Brahmi, Kharosthi, Sharda, Siddham and Bengali alphabets.

Since the late 18th century, Sanskrit has also been written with the Latin alphabet. The
most commonly used system is the International Alphabet of Sanskrit Transliteration
(IAST), which was been the standard for academic work since 1912.
